Please give us a short summary of your website?
The site is an internet notice board which enables owners to advertise their Spanish holiday villas and holiday property rentals. Also listed on the site are property and land for sale along with businesses and services in Spain.
What inspired you to launch your own website?
We started the site to provide a cheap method for people to promote their Spanish properties and drive traffic to their websites.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
Our first website was Rentaccomspain.com, a Spanish property rentals and sales portal which we launched in early 2007.
How did you decide on a name for your website?
As advertisers buy blocks of pixels to promote their villas etc. we decided to call the site Pixel Villas. Keep it simple!
What makes it different from other, similar offerings?
The site is all about driving traffic to our advertisers own site and with a high traffic site such as this, they will get more hits to their own than site they may do otherwise. There are no other sites which utilize this pixel based method of property advertising.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
To fill all the pixel blocks with property adverts and have an ever changing 'notice board' driving traffic to our advertisers websites.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
Promotions are time comsuming but without them there will be no success or goals achieved, therefore the time is well spent.
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
Promote more, advertise more and promote a bit more - you get the idea.
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
As we have only an admin funtion and the site being designed so that advertisers can manage their own ads, we will be able to keep up with demand when the site gets bigger.
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
Nothing really as we have learned from lessons when starting up the rentaccomspain.com site.
What has been your biggest challenge?
Search engine placings - as with all new sites probably.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
Sites such as this which give us an opportuniy to let people know we exist.
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
It was set up with a plan in mind that advertisers manage their own ads so that we only need to be involved as an admin function. Therefore running the site hasn't differed from what we planned and everything so far has been to our expectations.
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
The site was launched in mid 2007 and as it is self running with minimal input needed from us, it will stay online for ..... well, a long time !!
