Please give us a short summary of your website?
Hotel Casa Mateo is a 40-room hotel located in Jinotepe. We specialize in teams coming to help the poor in Nicaragua but accept tourists and locals. The owners, Lynne and Glenn Schweitzer, are missionaries to Nicaragua. The hotel helps fund a childrens home for abused and abandoned children called Quinta Esperanza.
What prompted the web site?
We are the only hotel in Jinotepe but not too many people know about us. The climate here is better than much of Nicaragua and we are centrally located with regard to tourist areas. We want to provide a wholesome, comfortable and reasonably-priced place for visitors.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
This is our first website. It has a link to our ministry website for those who want to bring medical, construction and ministry teams.
How did you decide on a name for your website?
Our ministry is Ministerio Mateo 5:16 and we decided to call our hotel, Casa Mateo.
What makes it different from other, similar offerings?
The ambience in Casa Mateo is different from most hotels and our staff really care about our guests. We also will be starting Church services in English and Spanish for those who care to attend.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
We plan to expand the services we offer.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
We believe that in the two years that we have been here we have established ourselves.
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
We would purchase the building and one on the corner as an add-on. We would enclose the rooftop. We would improve the decor and make the hotel even more customer friendly.
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
It depends on the time of year. During the months of July, December and April we tend to get full. We can presently accomodate up to 120 people per night.
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
Having to pay so many employees and dealing with the attitudes of the employees.
What has been your biggest challenge?
Well, we started without any cash and the hotel was in terrible condition. There was no furniture or kitchen fixtures. We had to repair the electric and plumbing. Basically, we started from scratch with no money.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
Well, it is a new website. I wish we had gotten it up and running at the beginning. So, I am currently linking it to as many other websites as I can.
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
A couple of months. Indefinitely.
Did you ever think that you would be running a hotel in Nicaragua?
It was in the back of my mind but our primary reason for coming here was to help the children and youth of Nicaragua have a better future.
