Please give us a short summary of your website?
The website is primarily a promotional site for the book "Dances With Marmots", the story of a five month, 2650 mile solo hike from Mexico to Canada along the Pacific Crest Trail that travels the length of California, Oregon and Washington. The site also contains some tips and information that is hopefully of interest to hikers and backpackers.
What inspired you to launch your own website?
After the book was published, I was looking for ways in which maybe those who were interested could be made aware of it. Giving it an online presence seemed the logical thing to do.
How did you decide on a name for your website?
The title of the book!
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
A lot of time has been involved, but success well balances it, if success is measured by the pleasure derived from comments of folk who tell me they have enjoyed or been inspired by reading the book!
What has been your biggest challenge?
Apart from walking from Mexico to Canada, then writing and publishing the book, a major challenge was building a website having no prior knowledge of what was involved. A slow process!
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
Probably the writing of a few relative outdoor articles and also attempting to make sure the site itself meets search engine criteria.
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
The site has been running for a couple of years now and will continue to run into the foreseeable future as long as the book is available.
