Please give us a short summary of your website?

This site shows all the great things to do in Northern Michigan. I am documenting my travels and including photos "Up North."

What inspired you to launch your own website?

I've always been the unofficial northern Michigan ambassador for my friends. I planned ski trips, canoe adventures, wine tastings, blues festivals, sleigh rides and much more in Northern Michigan. It has so much to offer and I want to encourage others to visit.

When did you launch your first website, and what was it?

My first site documents my dream and experiences of building a log cabin in Northern Michigan. www.logcabininmichigan.blogspot.com

How did you decide on a name for your website?

I wasn't sure if everyone would know what "Up North" means, so I used 'Shelley's Northern Michigan Travels" to make it more personal.

What makes it different from other, similar offerings?

It's my own unique experiences and explorations of northern Michigan. I'm constantly looking for something new to do "Up North" and making sure I take advantage of all it has to offer.

What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)

I hope to increase tourism to northern Michigan. Tourism is currently the number 2 industry in Michigan. With the automotive industry troubles, I think we have opportunities to grow our economy with tourism.

What are some of your favorite places to visit in Northern Michigan and why?

I loved Seney National Wildlife Refuge. It has everything to offer to a hiker, a nature photographer or a great lover of the outdoors. I was especially thrilled to see the Common Loon and hear its call across the water. Additionally, I love the wineries in the Traverse area - there are some great wines and cheeses up there!

What are some of the next places you would like to visit?

I would like to go to Natures Kennels and do some dog sledding! Also, I want to go to Isle Royale and see some Moose!

How would you describe Northern Michigan?

A hidden jewel that enables you to connect with the great outdoors.
