Kenya mt kilimanjaro Tanzania Safaris Interview
Name of your website?

Tanzania Safaris

Your name?

Robert

Your Location (city, etc)

Nairobi

Please give us a short summary of your website?

Lying to the south of Kenya is Tanzania, Some of the attractions in Northern Tanzania are Serengeti national park which lies in the same ecosystem as the Maasai Mara game reserve, Ngorongoro Crater, Olduvai Gorge and Mt Kilimanjaro. From Dar es Salam it is possible to visit Selous Game reserve, Mikumi and Ruaha National parks in southern Tanzania.

What inspired you to launch your own website?

The need to provide accurate information about Tanzania and its wildlife safaris for the average traveller

When did you launch your first website, and what was it?

September 2007. It was a Tour Operator site

How did you decide on a name for your website?

"Amani" means peace in Swahili which is the national language of Tanzania. Peace is an inspiration and the only hope for development in Africa.

What makes it different from other, similar offerings?

We provide accurate information and customise it to suit your needs depending on which activity you would like to par-take in Tanzania while on safari

What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)

My long term goal is to ensure the site provides suitable information for travelers while making some income too.

How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?

Online business takes time to grow, thus time and money spent initially are higher than returns but this should be overcome in the long term.

If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?

I would provide online booking and payment facilities at an affordable price while strengthening security to protect a clients sensitive data.

If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?

Yes, I have a wealth of experience working in the tourism industry both in Kenya and Tanzania. Rapid growth would be easy to handle.

What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?

travel advisories in Kenya have affected the whole East Africa region this will translate in massive cancellations and losses though the situation on the ground is rather different than portrayed in the international media. There may be political tension but peace is being maintained

What has been your biggest challenge?

To get the word out to the world that East Africa is safe to travel to and will not disappoint any traveler who loves adventure. People do not know East Africa has some of the most magnificent natural resources and scenery found anywhere on earth including Mt. Kilimanjaro, lake Victoria, Maasai Mara, Serengeti, the Ngorongoro Crater amongst others. Getting the word out is the greatest challenge

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

Using search engine optimization techniques is contributing to popularity of the site gradually online. will a lot more effort good rankings will be achieved on the top search engines which may lead to more conversions.

How has running your website differed from your expectations?

Changes in technology mean you need to update your knowledge regularly so as not to be left behind and to get new techniques of doing things online. This means I have to spend more time on research than I had anticipated.

How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?

I've been running it for 5 months now and intend to keep it so long as the internet is the best source of information for all. This should be a long long time.....God willing.

Where does the great wildebeest migration take place every year?

The great wildebeest migration take place every year in Serengeti National Park to Maasai Mara National reserve. It is the largest migration of wildlife to be found anywhere in the world today and has been dubbed the seventh greatest wonder of the modern world.

What is your website address?

Tanzania Safaris
