Name of your website?Kefalonia Greece
Your name?
Richard Chappell
Your Location (city, etc)
Hereford
What is your website about?
Kefalonia Greece provides free and comprehensive tourist and holiday information about the Greek island of Kefalonia.
What inspired you to launch your own website?
Having visited the island of Kefalonia in 2007, I was struck by the beauty of the place. The weather is fantastic, as you would expect, but beyond the obvious, Kefalonia has a real charm and natural friendliness.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
My first website was launched in 2006 about another Greek island - Paxos. The site is still going strong today: http://www.visit-paxos.co.uk/
How did you decide on a name for your website?
Well, the site is about Kefalonia in Greece, so I didn't have to work to hard to think of the title!
What makes it different from other, similar offerings?
Kefalonia-greece.co.uk differs from other sites about Kefalonia as it is written from the tourists point of view. The site isn't trying to sell anything. As such, the site tells it as it is.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
I will keep the site as part of my growing portfolio of websites.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
With this site it is difficult to say as the site has only recently launched.
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
I would spend more time in Kefalonia so that I could add more videos as well as more content. The best website content comes from personal experiences.
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
Absolutely! Bring it on!
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
I getting an old hand at this now, so I didn't have any nasty surprises. people launching websites for the first time tend to not realise how much work, research and effort goes into producing a site. Time is the biggest cost.
What has been your biggest challenge?
The biggest challenge with any new website is getting the site known. This usually takes time, so you need to have patience.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
Word of (virtual) mouth is the best way on the internet. By giving people what they want and not bombarding them with SPAM or loads of adverts keeps people happy. A thousand happy users is a far better marketing tool than a bunch of expensive adverts.
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
As I've mentioned before, I'm getting to be an old hand at launching websites, so my expectations were fairly well grounded.
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
The site has only recently launched, so I don't have that problem yet. If it gets big, well great!
Any other sites planned for the future?
Um, watch this space!
