Please give us a short summary of your website?
a 2 bedroom and a bedroom self-catering apartments in the brand new Oasis Resort complex in Hurghada Egypt. On the Red sea riviera these apartments will be available from Xmas 2008 and we will be offering a grand opening discount to all on line bookings through our website
What inspired you to launch your own website?
I used Vixtay Web Design because they offer the personal touch at the right price and have been on board from the start. The website gives us the opportunity to show potential clients not just the properties but also the resort of Hurghada. There are links to everything you could want to know or do in Hurghada.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
This is the first. We have been working closely with Chris from Vixtay on what we want on there and been fully involved in the layout, design and content. It has been a great project that will be on going.
How did you decide on a name for your website?
I wanted something that would be found in search engines and that best described the properties.
What makes it different from other, similar offerings?
Firstly this is a privatly owned property and we do not have to make big profits. In our first few years we just want to get people in and build up a good reputation. Consequently we will be offering big savings during the first year and possibly for return visits. We already have very good prices e.g. the 2 bedroom apartment sleeps 6 people and is only £350 a week no matter what time of the year you use it. We do not punish familys suring school holidays and bank holidays by raising the prices to exploit the situation. We plan on keeping it like this too.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
Firstly to build a good reputation and return client base. After that I may look at aquiring more property, we shall see.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
At the moment it is a hobby but one that I have high hopes for especially as the website is already generating a lot of interest.
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
Nothing at the moment, maybe keep it for further properties in the future
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
Yes I am fairly sure with Chris's help we could manage this. He has been more than a website designer. He has offered great on going advice throughout. Many of the websites he has built have been for holiday properties so he has good experience of what works and the possible pitfalls.
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
Again, Chris has helped with a lot of free marketing and leaflet distribution so at the moment nothing serious.
What has been your biggest challenge?
Keeping patient while the resort is being built! I have already had serious enquiries and it is horrible telling them that they have to wait another year.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
Free classifieds, good website listings and flyers.
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
Not really and most of this is left to Chris. I just tell him what I want and he does it.
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
We have been working on it now for about 6 months and it is on going
